Over time, paintings can lose their appeal. Years of smoke, layers of varnish, tears in the canvas, and more.
Restoring paintings is a slow and meticulous job.

Carefully cleaning the dirt and revealing the original artwork can change so much, the bright colours, the original details of the original picture shine through.
I am not a professional restorer, working at gallery level, understanding the chemical compositions of valuable art centuries old, but am capable of bringing life back to family heirlooms, paintings done by a grandparent or church altarpiece.

The work I do includes cleaning the painting, repairing any physical damage to the canvas or panel, restoring (if possible) or replacing the frame.

This family heirloom was cleaned and restored. Some areas of the painting required re-painting as the original paint had become quite spoilt. The frame was quite damaged and required re-gilding.
A more detailed view of the work required can be seen in the film I made of trying to repair and restore a painting in the local church. The original frame had been damaged by woodworm and the picture finally fell off the wall, tearing the canvas on the piano that stood below it. You can see the film hereunder or on YouTube.
