Many people talk to me about their painting style – I often respond that style is basically your usual mistakes that become recognisable. The famed classic painter Doménikos Theotokópoulos, known as El Greco never really got his proportions right and yet is recognised as a great classic. As in the attached picture of St Bernardino of Siena, the head is tiny, the body is too tall and skinny. The same flaws can be found in most of his paintings, it is call his “style”.
As I put this website together, I realise I have no defined style… I have pictures of animals and people, oil paintings and water colours, large and small… Most well-known painters you can bring to mind are probably known for a style: military painter, religious icons, surrealist, abstract (Mondrian or Pollock), portraitist…
In these pages I have included many of my pictures and drawings for your pleasure and interest. When I have done something, I want to try something else. I am not really tempted by repeating the same pictures with minute variations hundreds of times like Bob Ross or Mark Rothko. This means that I do not have the key item required for galleries and representatives and I will never be a celebrity artist.
That’s OK, I believe art is about fun and emotions. Have fun.
